Dundee United boss Mixu Paatelainen has bolstered his roster ahead of tomorrow’s crunch league game against Hamilton with the addition of former Liverpool striker Florent Sinama Pongolle.

The 31-year-old, who has been training with the Tangerines for the last fortnight, becomes the second new signing this week following the arrival of Guy Demel, who previously played for Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg and West Ham.

Both will go straight into the United squad for the game against Accies, as long as international clearance comes through for Pongolle whose last club was Swiss side Laussane.

Paatelainen said: “We have signed Pongolle until the end of the season.

“He is ready to play as long as international clearance comes through which it should from Switzerland.

“We are dealing with a European club.

“He has been with top clubs previously and now he is 31, he has had a couple of injuries which is possibly why he is out of contract at this moment in time.

“Things are not 100% for him but I believe when he does get fully fit, he will be a good addition to our squad.”

When asked if he was looking for Pongolle to link up well with fellow striker Billy Mckay, the manager said: “I hope so. That’s why he’s here.

“But not only Billy, the rest of the squad and I am looking forward to that.

“If the international clearance comes through for Flo, then he will be in the squad and Guy is in the squad.

“But we will see tomorrow.”
