Dundee United hope they have not seen last of Curtis Good

Dundee United are keen to bring central defender Curtis Good back to Tannadice for a second loan spell.

The Australian international is in his homeland preparing for the World Cup in Brazil next month.

The Socceroos play South Africa in a warm-up friendly at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Monday and Good hopes to be involved.

It is understood the Tangerines want to get the Newcastle United player back on board after he impressed during a spell on loan last season.

It is extremely likely that he would have been in the Scottish Cup final team had his time at Tannadice not been brought to a premature end by a hip injury picked up while making his international debut against Ecuador in March.

With central defender Gavin Gunning having confirmed that the loss to St Johnstone was his last game for United, getting Good back on board would be a big boost for manager Jackie McNamara’s rebuilding plans.

Meanwhile, the Tangerines’ involvement in the final meant they had to turn down the chance of a summer friendly against English champions Manchester City.

City, who will play Dundee at Dens on July 13, are understood to have approached United regarding a game at Tannadice but the club could not commit to a date because of the uncertainty over whether or not they would be playing European football.

As it turned out, St Johnstone’s victory at Celtic Park put paid to that and United’s squad will now report back to work at the end of June.

McNamara is then likely to take his players abroad for a shorter pre-season trip than last year’s 16 days in Germany and Spain.
