Dundee United wait for news on Callum Morris injury

Dundee United face an anxious wait to see the full extent of the injury to central defender Callum Morris.

The Tanagerines sank to a 3-2 defeat at Kilmarnock on Saturday after losing Morris for the whole of the second half.

His absence gave encouragement to Killie striker Josh Magennis, who upped his game after the break and made use of the greater freedom he was given.

It all culminated in Sammy Clingan’s freekick winner for the home team three minutes into stoppage-time.

United manager McNamara rued the loss of Morris to a thigh injury which, added to the suspension for Jarek Fojut, left them without their first-choice central defensive pairing.

“I think losing Callum Morris at half-time was a real blow for us,” said McNamara.

“He hurt his thigh midway through the first half but tried to soldier on.

“We will need to assess the injury over the next few days.

“You could see in the second half how Kilmarnock got a lot of joy by using the physical presence of Josh Magennis.

“That was a big factor for us.

“We had lost one centre half before the game which was bad enough but I think losing the two was important.

“The three goals we lost were very poor to say the least.

“We were far too deep at times and that was a frustration for me.

“That probably came about because we lost Callum.”
