Forfar 2 Dundee United 2: Special moment as Jordan Moore marks return with equaliser

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara heaped praise on classy kid Jordan Moore after his late equaliser at Station Park last night.

Striker Moore came off the bench to hit an equaliser in 88 minutes to cap off a brave fight-back off the field.

Moore has battled back from skin cancer over the past few months which threatened his career but is now aiming to take the SPFL by storm in the new season.

And United boss McNamara said: “What he’s been through in the past year or so off the field has been phenomenal. Football was always secondary and you could see what it meant to him and the rest of the lads when he scored.”

Deadly Dale Hilson almost came back to haunt old club United as his double looked like giving Forfar a morale-boosting win in this pre-season friendly, until Moore struck.

The young striker was released by the Tangerines in the summer so had a point to prove by squaring up to his former club.

Hilson hit a quickfire second-half brace to shock the visitors, who had Hull target Andrew Robertson to thank for firing them into a first-half lead.

McNamara handed his kids the chance to shine but still had some experience in the shape of keeper Radoslaw Cierzniak, Andrew Robertson and John Souttar.

Summer signings Blair Spittal and Charlie Telfer were also given a run-out in front of a healthy travelling support who’d made the short journey up to Angus.

After Kudus Oyenuga sliced an effort over Forfar keeper Rab Douglas and Telfer saw his shot saved by the former Dundee star, Robertson put United ahead in 29 minutes when he played a slick one-two with Aiden Connolly.

Connolly’s return pass was to perfection and Robertson surged towards goal to clip his shot past the diving Douglas.

Forfar were fired up after the break and swept into a quickfire lead.

In 51 minutes, they were awarded a penalty when Omar Kader was brought down by Darren Petrie.

Hilson stepped up to send Cierzniak the wrong way from the spot.

Two minutes later he grabbed his second as he calmly swept the ball past Cierzniak.

The Loons took heart but were unable to prevent United levelling in the dying minutes when sub Moore finished from close-range from Robertson’s low cross.

Loons boss Dick Campbell said: “Young Dale showed what he’s capable of and we have high hopes for him for this season.”
