‘That goal means so much’ Dundee United’s Jordan Moore describes ‘joy and emotion’ of comeback

Jordan Moore reflected on an ‘incredibly emotional moment’ as he set his sights on starring for Dundee United this season.

The brave Tangerines striker almost broke down in tears after his late leveller away to Forfar on Wednesday capped a brave fightback from skin cancer.

Moore, 20, had surgery to remove melanoma skin cancer back in the New Year and has since been given the all-clear to kick-start his career in the wake of his well-documented health scare.

The young striker cherished his finish from close range to ensure a 2-2 draw for the Tannadice men.

Moore said: “It was so emotional. I’ve never felt like that before in any game of football.

“It’s almost impossible to describe. After what I’ve been through, to get that goal means so much to me because everyone knows what I’ve been through.

“You could tell by the reaction of my team-mates what it meant to them as well. I think ‘Soapy’ (John Souttar) actually ran half the length of the pitch to congratulate me!

“It was like something out of the World Cup.

“It might seem unusual as it’s not something you often see for a pre-season game, but the overwhelming feeling is just one of joy and emotion.

“My team-mates are my friends. They’ve always been behind me and I’ll always appreciate their support.”

Moore’s career was threatened by his diagnosis back in January but now the big forward is focusing on becoming a smash-hit for Jackie McNamara’s men who are gearing up for the big kick-off when they travel to take on Aberdeen early next month.

He said: “It’s been a hard time but hopefully there are only good times ahead.

“I can’t wait for the new season now. The gaffer has said he’d like me to push on from now and that has got to be the aim.”

As well as his loyal team-mates, Moore also thanked boss McNamara for standing by him during those tough times.

He said: “The gaffer has helped me so much emotionally and physically in the past few months. He has been unbelievable.

“From the minute the news came out, he has supported me. I feel as though I owe him.”

McNamara hopes to boost his squad further by bringing in another forward within the next 24 hours.

He said: “We’re trying to get in another new face. It’s a striker and hopefully we can get it done soon.”
