05/05/15 TANNADICE - DUNDEE Brechin City manager Ray McKinnon is delighted to have been awarded Scottish League One manager of the Month for April 2015

Ray McKinnon has emerged as a strong contender to become the new manager at not one but two clubs.

The current Brechin boss is understood to be the front runner to take over at Raith Rovers with the Fife outfit believed to have formally offered him the chance to occupy the Stark’s Park hot-seat vacated by Grant Murray.

However, McKinnon, who starred as a midfielder for Dundee United, Nottingham Forest and Aberdeen during his playing career, had also been short-listed by relegated St Mirren who placed Gary Teale in temporary charge after the departure of Tommy Craig in December.

McKinnon travelled west yesterday to meet Buddies chairman Stewart Gilmour and his directors and he is believed to have impressed during the interview.

McKinnon then met again with Rovers representatives last night with the situation over their manager position remaining unresolved.

St Mirren are interviewing more candidates today and are expected to make a quick decision on appointing a new manager as they gear up for life in the Championship next season.

That may conceivably mean McKinnon could be left having to decide if his future lay in Kirkcaldy or Paisley.

The 44-year-old has previously admitted that he took a big gamble and pay cut when he left his position as technical development officer with the SFA in 2012 to take over at Brechin.

However, he has proved a big success for the Angus side on a tight budget.

He guided City to the Championship play-offs this season and also received recognition by winning three out of four of the Manager of the Month awards at the start of 2015.
