Dunfermline v Morton: Pars gunning for three points in promotion race

Dunfermline manager John Potter hopes his side can give the fans at East End Park something to shout about when Morton come calling this afternoon in yet another crucial League One clash.

The Pars have had no change from the Greenock outfit so far this season after losing all three of their previous encounters, and a similar outcome today could all but end any hopes Potter’s men have of snatching the fourth and final play-off place.

Four points separate the Fife club from fourth-placed Brechin with six games remaining, meaning time is running out for the Pars to claw their way back into the mix, while Morton remain a point off top spot and will be determined to secure another three points to bolster their title challenge.

A lot to play for down Halbeath Road today then, and Potter is under no illusions that his team have to aim for maximum points.

“It is up to us to keep being positive and play on the front foot,” he commented.

“Three points would be nice and it is up to us to go and try and win the game.

“The fans have been supportive throughout although they have been frustrated and disappointed at times.

“They have let their feelings known but we are disappointed and frustrated as well.

“But we are still in a position where we can still do what we started out at the beginning of the season.

“It is up to us to try and get the crowd on their feet – excite them and try and start the game properly.

“So we will be trying to lift the crowd and in turn they will give us a bit back to help us win the game.

“I wouldn’t say it is payback but it is an opportunity to make up for them beating us three times this season.

“We feel that we should have done better in at least a couple of them but we didn’t do that, so it is up to us to and do it on Saturday.”

The Pars will not only be without forward Ryan Wallace, who has been ruled out for the season, but also defender Lewis Martin who is on Scotland Under 19 duty in Austria.

The 18-year-old has been solid in a Pars defence that has not gone four games unbeaten, and Potter admits he will be a big miss.

“It is great for him because he is away with Scotland and we want that for our players,” he continued.

“Obviously it is difficult for us because we have got to try and replace him.

“But we have got players like Stuart Urquhart and Declan O’Kane who has been doing really well in the under 20s.

“They will be fighting for a place and I can change the shape as well.”

Meanwhile, the Pars have allowed 18-year-old goalkeeper Jamie Wilson to go on loan to Berwick Rangers until the end of the season.
