Forfar boss Dick Campbell has expressed his disbelief that none of his squad have been nominated for the PFA Scotland League One Player of the Year Award.
The contenders for the honour were announced on Tuesday with Peterhead’s Jamie Stevenson, Alan Trouten of Brechin City, Morton’s Declan McManus and Willie Gibson of Stranraer in the running for the accolade.
Campbell though, is astonished that despite the fact his side have been battling at the top of the league all season and are still in with a great chance of securing automatic promotion, Forfar nominees are notable by their absence.
The veteran boss said: “I just cannot believe there were no Forfar players nominated for the award.
“We have been in the top two most of the season and are still very much in the hunt for promotion, so it is annoying that my players have not received the recognition they have deserved.
“Big Rab Douglas, to name but one, has been outstanding all season and probably has more shut-outs than any other goalie in the league, yet he hasn’t even been given a mention.
“It is really annoying.”
While disappointed with the PFA snub, Campbell was delighted that his club’s Under-20 side clinched the SPFL Development League East earlier this week with a 3-0 win over Raith Rovers.
He believes it is a fantastic achievement and shows the club have a promising future.
He said: “I watched the Under-20s win against Raith on Wednesday night to clinch the league title.
“It is a fantastic achievement and a fitting reward for the club.
“There will be four or five or five of the lads in the squad for our game at Dunfermline which shows the future’s bright for Forfar.”
