Forfar “buzz” ahead of title run-in

Forfar “buzz” ahead of title run-in

Dick Campbell has insisted that his Forfar Athletic team haven’t been fazed by hitting the front in the League One title race.

The in-form Loons have looked “sensational” in training this week according to the veteran Station Park boss, who cut short a family holiday to make sure he was part of it.

And they aren’t hiding from the fact that they are three games away from becoming champions.

The first of those three is at Peterhead this afternoon, and Campbell was happy to put his selection cards on the table.

“You could have named my team at 20 to five last Saturday,” he pointed out. “We’ve won our last seven games.

“Airdrie were in great form – I think they’d only lost one in 12 – but we were fantastic against them.

“What a buzz there is at the place just now.

“For this stage of the season the effort, enthusiasm and standard of training is sensational.

“We’re seven wins out of seven and we’re going into the Peterhead match totally focussed on what we need to do.”

He added: “What a position to be in.

“There’s no hiding place. Win three games and we are champions. Let’s keep it going.”

Campbell revealed that he curtailed a holiday down south to make sure he was back for training on Thursday night.

“I left the family at Center Parcs and came up from England by train,” he said.

“I wanted the players to see that I’ve got the same commitment as everyone else has to what we’re trying to achieve here.

“That commitment in the squad is magnificent.”

Forfar already have one success to celebrate, Raith Rovers’ defeat to Stirling Albion confirming their under-20 development league east title.

And Campbell is hopeful that several members of Barry Sellars’ team will be able to make the step-up into his squad.

“We’ll be offering contracts to four or five of them,” he revealed. “A couple have already been involved with the first team.

“It’s a fantastic achievement in a league with a few full-time clubs.

“A lot of people have worked hard to make that happen. Everything at Forfar is very positive just now.”
