Pars need to be more clinical to earn more points, says Dunfermline boss

Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies has demanded that his team turn dominance in games into points after taking just two from a possible 12.

The Pars slipped to fourth in League One at the weekend after their 1-0 loss at Stenhousemuir and are now four games without a victory.

But while that kind of form is unlikely to see them win automatic promotion, Jefferies will be heartened by the fact that his team are still just three points off top spot in spite of recent results and knows that they could and should have amassed a far greater tally on the balance of play.

“Good performances are all very well but results are what matter at the moment,” Jefferies stressed.

“After I got a response from certain players in the Under 20s game against Dundee (a 5-0 win at Dens Park), I told the players they had better make sure that they get a result against Stenhousemuir.

“So they were warned.

“If you analyse the game – did they work hard enough? The answer is yes. Did they try to play? The answer is yes.

“But we are guilty, when we do create a chance, of not finishing it off.

“We are not scoring enough goals for the amount of dominance we have in games. That is the bottom line.”

Jefferies has already warned there could well be changes in personnel ahead of this Saturday’s visit of Stirling Albion.

“We have to look at something else in terms of how we go about it and also some changes,” he continued.

“Maybe some fresh faces in there to give these boys an opportunity to resolve the problem because we are not scoring goals.

“I watched the players on Thursday in training and they were lashing them away, passing them away, scoring goals for fun.

“That’s all very well but you have to do it in games and we are not doing that.

“We will have to change it, give somebody else a chance and see if they can take the chances that are coming along our way.”
