Chris Kane is “his own man”

Tommy Wright has admitted that Chris Kane shares similar qualities to Stevie May, but that’s where the comparision will begin and end as far as the Perth boss is concerned.

The youngster ran himself into the ground for St Johnstone against Aberdeen, and would have brought back bad memories of last season for the Dons defenders when May was a thorn in their side.

Wright, though, insisted that Kane is “his own man”.

He noted: “I felt the time was right for Kano to come back from his time on loan. He showed against Aberdeen what he is all about. But he didn’t have to prove anything to me.

“That was his first start and I was pleased for him. His work rate and link-up play were excellent. If he had tucked away a chance it would have been a dream start for him. But he will score goals for us.

“And he helped get us further up the park and created space for Macca (Steven MacLean).

“As I have said before Kano is a lad with a bright future ahead of him.

“People will have their opinions and I can’t stop comparisons being made with other players.

“He has some similar traits to Stevie May but Kano is a different personality and a different character. He is his own man. He is Chris Kane and that’s it.”
