St Johnstone looking for another fast start

Tommy Wright has called on his St Johnstone players to pick up where they left off against Aberdeen.

The in-form Dons struggled to deal with the intensity the Perth men brought to their Friday night clash, and Wright wants another fast start at Fir Park tomorrow.

“Aberdeen probably set out to do what we did to them,” he pointed out.

“We had emphasised the intensity in our game was not there the previous Tuesday against Inverness, although they looked fresher as they hadn’t played the previous weekend.

“We freshened the team up and there was an emphasis on the players who came in to get up to speed and they gave everyone a lift and energised the team.

“I would have freshened the team anyway, although maybe not to the extent of making six changes. I was pleased with our intensity, it is always key to how well we perform.”

Chris Millar is unlikely to feature, and Dave Mackay is still an injury doubt as well.

The Aberdeen match, though, proved that Saints have strength in depth.

“It’s not wise to risk anyone with important games coming up,” Wright said.

“The performance on Friday night proved we have coped with the injuries we’ve picked up this season.”

James McFadden is available to face his old club, having served his three-game suspension.

The Northern Irishman confirmed that there will be no movement in or out of the club before the transfer window closes.
