Fife racer Jonny Adam has scooped another 2015 trophy with a rookie driver more used to cupcakes than cups.

Aston Martin factory driver Adam shared a Beechdean Racing Vantage GT4 on Brands Hatch GT Cup duty with Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood and the pair claimed GTA class victory in the 50-minute race, proudly finishing 14th overall in a 33-car grid.

In what was Hollywood’s first ever race start since moving into motor sport with Beechdean AMR in March, he blitzed the lights at the off and maintained a consistent pace to the halfway handover to Adam.

Hollywood said: “Jonny has been my mentor along with (Beechdean team owner) Andrew Howard and what a great result for all the team.

“I’m so proud to be part of it,” added the baker turned television presenter, who Adam says has serious rookie race pace.

“Paul is a real petrolhead and a competitive guy, but I would say he’s even more ahead of where we thought he would be at this stage in his racing,” said the 30-year-old former champion in karts and Seat Cupras.

Adam is hoping Mary Berry’s co-star in the hit BBC series may also share some of his special skills but admits it will be hard to find the time to change the racing gloves for oven mitts.

“I’m a wee bit behind in the whole kitchen thing so maybe he will teach me a thing or two, but I don’t know when I’ll find the time.”

Next up for the Courier Country man is this weekend’s legendary Nurburgring 24 Hours in a factory Aston Martin GT3, where he will partner New Zealander Richie Stanaway and Matthias Lauda, son of former F1 world champion and current Mercedes F1 team chief Niki Lauda.

“We have two factory cars and we really want to try to take the fight to the big players like Audi,” said Adam.

“This is a huge event, we’ve had some very good preparation and it is great to be part of it, and cool to be racing with a name like Lauda.”
