Dundee-based figure skater Danielle Harrison has been selected for the Team GB European Youth Olympic Festival.

The 15-year-old, originally from Basingstoke, will compete in the ladies short and free programmes.

Harrison has previously represented Great Britain in international competitions in Ostrava, Tallin, and Nice.

She said: “I enjoyed a really successful season last year including becoming British junior champion, so I’m excited to test myself against some of Europe’s best young figure skaters.

“EYOF 2015 will be a great learning opportunity for me and all the other British athletes, and I’m looking forward to being part of a team with competitors from different sports. It’s really exciting to be selected for Team GB for the first time.”

Team GB consists of 15 athletes, all aged 15-17 years old, who will compete across four of the eight disciplines at EYOF 2015; alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating and snowboarding.

The festival will feature the best youth winter athletes from Europe and over 900 athletes from more than 45 nations have been nominated to take part.

Leading the British competitors as Chef de Mission will be two-time Olympic gold medal winning sailor Sarah Gosling.

She said: “This is a great time to be a young British winter athlete following the success of Sochi 2014 last year. EYOF 2015 provides the perfect springboard for budding winter Olympians to gain valuable experience at a multi-sport event and as part of Team GB.”
