Dundee Stars’ coach pleased with team response to Capitals punishment

Dundee Stars coach Marc Lefebvre revealed that he asked his squad for a response following Saturday’s shock home defeat by Edinburgh Capitals.

The players delivered with an emphatic 7-2 victory at Elite League newcomers Manchester Storm after trailing 2-0 in the first period.

Now Lefebvre looks forward to a trip to Fife Flyers on Saturday and a home clash with Braehead Clan on Sunday, both games in Challenge Cup Group A.

The 33-year-old Canadian said: “We got a big goal from Riley Wetmore to make it 2-1 just before the end of the period.

“Then Doug (Clarkson) levelled six minutes into the second period and we took it from there.”

Lefebvre said the win showed great character in the squad following the 4-2 reverse to Capitals.

He said: “We were not playing that well but went 2-0 up and looking in control of the game.

“We had chances to take it away but turned the puck over and they scored to make it 2-1.

“We had other chances but they won and I asked for a reaction from the players I got one.”

Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume admitted his squad were dis-appointed at Saturday’s 5-1 home reverse to Braehead.

Dutiaume now prepares his side for the visit of Stars and a trip to Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday.

The Canadian, said: “The guys are disappointed to lose the game.

“We knew it was going to be a high pace and credit to the team and to (Clan coach) Ryan Finnerty for doing such a great job.

“Playing in Europe (in the Champions Hockey League) has obviously benefited them and Braehead are playing well.”
