Fife Flyers v Coventry Blaze: Horne aiming for milestone on home ice

Kyle Horne has a big reason to burn Coventry Blaze when they visit the Fife Ice Arena tonight.

The former Great Britain ice hockey international needs three points to reach 100 in all competitive games in the Elite League.

And the home-bred defenceman, who has been a great servant to his local club, would like nothing better than to celebrate that milestone in front of the Rosslyn Street fans.

Horne is in his 13th season with the Kirkcaldy combine. He’s played in five World Championships for Great Britain after being an under-18 and under-20 international.

He’s also had experience of playing with Slough Jets in England and spent five seasons with Edinburgh Capitals.

Horne will be 34 later this month but still has the same enthusiasm for the game.

However, to reach the ton he will have to up his production rate as last season in 59 appearances for Flyers he scored three goals at recorded 11 assists.

The incentive is also there for Flyers in the double-header with Blaze. The ambitious Fife club, anxious to win silverware by building on last season when they made the final four at Nottingham for the first time, need one goal at the SkyDome on Sunday to reach 200 in all Elite League games on the road.

Coventry coach Marc LeFebvre comes into the games after a disappointing road defeat at Cardiff Devils.

The Midlands side led 4-2 going into the final session but lost 6-4 and he said: “It was a roller-coaster. I am disappointed home or away it is inexcusable the way we gave up a lead like that.

“The wheels fell off and that is a lesson to be learned.”

Fife open their season after last weekend’s double-header against Danish touring side Aalborg Pirates.

No injuries are reported and Todd Dutiaume, Fife’s coach, said: “The guys have prepared well and we’re ready to go.
