Michael Forney and Tyler Mosienko both netted doubles as Sheffield Steelers put Fife Flyers to the sword 6-1.

Jordan Fulton opened the scoring for Fife after four minutes but Steelers hit six unanswered goals in a game in which the English side outshot Fife 49-23.

Fife’s agony started a minute later when Mathieu Roy levelled 82 seconds later and Forney fired the home side ahead three minutes after that.

The Kirkcaldy club held the Steelers at bay until the 30th minute.

Then Mosienko opened his account to start a crucial spell.

Two further goals hit Fife’s rigging inside six minutes, Mosienko claiming his second after 33 minutes and Colton Fretter putting the home side 5-1 ahead two minutes later.

Forney’s second arrived with less than three minutes remaining as Sheffield skated to a comfortable two points.

Flyers had travelled south in confident mood after sending misfiring Edinburgh Capitals to their 10th straight defeat as their nightmare start to the season continued.

Saturday’s 4-1 scoreline completed a win double inside a week over Capitals with Bobby Chaumont, Kyle Haines, Chris Auger and Jordan Fulton netting.

Daniel Naslund counted for Capitals.

Meanwhile, Dundee Stars failed to claim back-to-back wins over Hull Stingrays when they lost 4-3 against a side with only 11 skaters.

Matt Ryan opened the scoring after three minutes before Hull claimed three straight strikes.

They came between the 29th and 35th minutes and the mini goal rush then started when the English side levelled through Cory Tanaka.

Carl Lauzon popped in their second only 29 seconds after the start of the final session and Matthew Davies made it 3-1 two minutes later.

Back came Stars with defenceman Sam McCluskey pulling a goal back four minutes later.

But Tanaka made it 4-2 four minutes after that and Hull held out despite a strike from Igor Gongalsky on the power play after 54 minutes.

Dundee’s player-coach Jeff Hutchins wanted a four-point weekend and the result was a shock to fans after Saturday’s 6-4 win at Hull.

There, a John Mitchell treble helped Stars overturn a 4-3 deficit and Dundee’s other marksmen were Martin Cingel, Ryan Grimshaw and Chris Blight.

In the Scottish National League, Dundee Tigers lost 6-2 at Paisley Pirates despite being level at 2-2 after the middle period.
