A Perth teenager has earned a place among the riders taking place in next year’s prestigious Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup series.

Widely seen as one of the stars of the sport’s future, Rory Skinner (13) will be the only rider to represent Great Britain in the 2015 event after impressing during an intensive three-day selection process at the Circuito Guadix near Granada in Spain.

The youngster was one of just 109 riders from 30 nations who were shortlisted from over 1,000 applicants to take part in the highly regarded try-outs, which arguably attract some of the world’s most talented and up-and-coming young riders.

And after making the cut after two days of competition alongside 41 other competitors, Skinner did enough in day three’s afternoon session to secure his spot in the Rookies Cup next year.

“The three days were really tough but I’ve enjoyed it and have learnt a lot, and I’m really looking forward to competing next year,” the talented teenager revealed.

“It was nerve-wracking as there was so much at stake, but I kept calm and did what I had to do.”

Skinner recently secured the Dunlop Aprilia British Superteen Challenge Championship on his 13th birthday at Donington Park last month, and is now looking forward to travelling to the Mallory Park circuit in Leicestershire on Sunday, November 2, to take part in the ‘Race of the Year’ where he will ride a full Moto3 machine.

“It’s been an incredible year for me and I’m really happy with everything that I’ve achieved,” he concluded.

“It was an amazing feeling to win the Dunlop Aprilia British Superteen Challenge Championship at Donington Park on my 13th birthday, but being selected for the 2015 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is definitely the icing on the cake!”
