Paul Swindlehurst is on his way back to Dundee Stars.

The GB international tried to land a contract in North America.

The 21-year-old defenceman was invited to the Rockford Icehogs’ training camp before being signed by a Chicago Blackhawks affiliate club.

He was then traded to another East Coast Hockey League club.

Swindlehurst said: “I feel really happy to be returning to Dundee.

“It is also really appreciating to know that Dundee have stuck by me and are welcoming me back with open arms.

“I have learnt so much out in America in the time I was there and I can’t wait to apply it to my game over here and to see the improvements that I have made.

“Coming back to Dundee, I want to help out the team as much as I can, to get the team further up the table and to make the play-offs. I can’t wait to get started.”

Head coach Jeff Hutchins said: “We are all excited that Paul is coming back.

“He has made everyone in the UK take notice of his ability and we believe he is going to make an immediate impact in our line-up.”

Meanwhile, the club have released Canadian forward Rob Ricci.

He started the season late because of injury but the 29-year-old has failed to make a significant impact.

The Stars are at home on Saturday against Capitals (face-off 7pm) in a basement battle.
