Gordon Shedden is feeling comfortable in the box seat for this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship showdown at Brands Hatch.
Fifer Shedden heads the pack going into the title-deciding final round on the famous GP circuit and is planning to draw on the experience of winning the 2012 crown to give himself the best chance of joining the hallowed ranks of multiple BTCC champions.
The Honda Yuasa Racing driver heads closest rival Jason Plato by 23 points, but the ultra-competitive championship has five drivers in three different marques all capable of capturing the crown.
Behind the leading pair, Colin Turkington, Shedden’s team-mate Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan will all be looking to take the fizz out of the Scot’s weekend in the new Honda Civic Type R.
Shedden stretched the gap between himself and Plato with a strong showing at Silverstone last time, while the Team BMR man hit trouble in his Volkswagen.
“I’m feeling good. Silverstone was always going to be a little bit of an unknown for us given how the previous three years had gone there but our results proved just how good this Civic Type R truly is,” said Shedden.
“I think we exceeded even our own expectations. Now we go to Brands Hatch GP, and there really is no better place to end the season.
“It’s a great circuit old-school and a proper drivers’ track, and everybody loves racing there.”
Flash told crash.net: “I’m confident our Civic Type R will be awesome again and I’m not feeling any pressure just excitement. I feel comfortable inside the team and at one with the car.”
A repeat of history would also satisfy the Scot after his winning finale to the 2014 championship at Brands which ended a long winless streak.
“I can draw upon our experience from the last few years, I’m relaxed and I’m in a happy place,” Shedden continued.
“I’m sure the complexion of the championship will twist and turn quite a bit over the course of the weekend as it always tends to do but I’ll just approach it the same way I have all season. That’s worked pretty well so far, so I don’t see any reason to change now.”
