Automotive rarities that were once a familiar sight on the roads of Perthshire and Angus are to go under the auctioneer’s gavel this weekend.
For many years the Vauxhall 25 seven-seat limousines ferried passengers in their hackney role for an Alyth firm.
The 1937 models are now seeking to pick up a new fare who will be able to spend the time and effort to restore them to their former glory.
They are among almost 40 vehicles in a 700-plus lot Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club (SVVC) sale at Glamis on Saturday, which is poised to draw the interest of collectors.
In their heyday, the Grosvenor limos carried their passengers in true style, and after leaving the British maker’s Luton plan the three cars found their way to rural Perthshire via Poole.
SVVC chairman Allan Burt believes the Vauxhalls may have plied their trade in the area around the mid-1950s, before being retired from the road and put into storage.
”They’re all complete, but need restoration and I would say it’s very rare for three vehicles of this kind to come up for sale together,” said Mr Burt.
The weekend sale, at the SVVC Bridge View House base near Glamis, is the club’s second major auction of the year after the April disposal of the lifetime collection of William ‘Freddie’ Cunningham.
Club administrator Lesley Munro said: ”As well as more than 35 vehicles, there are over 700 smaller lots and we have had a huge amount of interest so far.”
”We have been taking calls from the length of the country this week and are expecting a big turnout of enthusiasts on Saturday.”
