Angus triathlete Ritchie Nicholls has been awarded top-level funding to help his bid to make the 2012 Olympics.
Triathlonscotland this week selected a squad of 28 triathletes on its national performance programme for next year’s race season.
The three-tiered programme podium, development and foundation is designed to provide support to triathletes at every level, from those pushing for selection at the London Games to youth competitors showing promise.
Nicholls, from Montrose, who won the London triathlon earlier this year, is one of just three to be bracketed in the elite podium class.
Triathlonscotland national performance development coach Chris Volley said: ”There were a number of stand-out performances from Scottish triathletes this year. I am pleased we are again able to support such a great talent pool of Scottish tri-athletes in 2012.
”Our programme is geared to progressing people along the performance pathway whether that means ingraining in the younger competitors the skills and attitudes they need or assisting the top level competitors as they compete across the world.”
The triathlonscotland 2012 performance programme triathletes from this area who will receive development and foundation support are Andrew Hood from Cupar, Cameron and Natalie Milne and Mairi Mulhern from Kinross, Perth’s Roddy Horne, Fergus Ingledew of St Andrews, Josh Murchie from Crieff and Euan Rose of Broughty Ferry.
