Life in miniature Monifieth Model Group reveals seven-year labour of love

An incredibly detailed model of old Monifieth has been unveiled as part of Angus Heritage Week.
The miniature model depicts how the High Street and surrounding area looked between 1930 and 1960 and has been a labour of love for the volunteer members of the Monifieth Model Group.
The stunning creation has been seven years in the making and now sits in Monifieth Library where members of the public can enjoy a close-up view.
David Hain, chairman of the model group, was at the library on Thursday to say a few words in front of a group of supporters and explained what was involved in carrying out the project.
He said: ”We used Google Earth to look at the footprint of the existing buildings and also CAD (computer aided design) to help sketch the models for each building.
”We also used old photos and invited residents who lived in Monifieth around this time to take a look and tell us what they thought. There were some changes on the back of these visits but it was all to the good of the model.”
The model group has already started its next project which is to build the old Caledonian Railway which ran from Dundee East Station to Forfar.
