Sharky’s Bar snaps up big names for darts night

An Angus bar has scored a bullseye by luring two of the biggest names in world darts to appear in an exhibition match next month.

Dennis “The Menace” Priestley and Colin “Jaws” Lloyd will bring the glamour of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to Sharky’s Bar in Montrose on March 20. Tickets for the encounter are being snapped up fast, with the pub promising to put on all the big stage entrances and razzmatazz.

Players who fancy their chances against the two Englishmen will not be disappointed as a series of qualifying rounds are to be held in the run-up to the night to compete for the honour of challenging the pros.

Bar manager Carl Glanville (42) said only 45 of the 120 tickets were still left after unprecedented demand.

“It goes much further than a simple exhibition match,” he said. “There will be a competition and the best of them will get the chance to play against Dennis or Colin.

“The guys are brilliant and they will stay around and have a pint after the match to sign autographs and pose for photos.”

Priestley has won two world championships and was the first player to win both the BDO and WDC (now PDC) world championships, in 1991 and 1994 respectively.

Lloyd is a former world number one ranked player and has won two major television titles in the PDC the 2004 World Grand Prix and 2005 World Matchplay.

Barman Chris Simpson (19) has been instrumental in organising and promoting the event alongside chef Ian MacLean (34), who has himself competed in the Scottish Open Darts Championships.

“The next qualifying round is on Tuesday night,” said Chris.
