Timber! Dundee’s ‘horrendous’ Christmas tree taken down and replaced
BySteven Dinnie
Dundee’s ‘horrendous’ Christmas tree has been taken down in City Square and replaced.
The tree was criticised by council chiefs and members of the public for looking unkempt.
Council workers have taken down the problem fir and replaced it with one passersby agreed was better looking.
Will Dawson, city development committee convener, said: “It was unfortunate, but we were let down by the supplier. The tree really wasn’t fit for purpose.
“It is good to see that rectified and the nice new tree will be in place for the Christmas light switch-on on the 14th.”
A new tree had to be brought in after patch repairs saw unsecured branches falling around shoppers and revellers in the city’s hub.
Dundee City Council have refused to confirm how much the purchase and erection of the tree cost the city, but have confirmed that the new tree will not cost any more.
