Labour’s general election co-ordinator, Tom Watson, has resigned amid a row over the party’s Falkirk selection process. The MP said he was stepping aside to safeguard “the unity of the party”, and called for an internal report into the controversy to be published. In a letter to Labour leader Ed Miliband, Mr Watson wrote: “As you know, I offered my resignation on Tuesday and you asked me to reconsider. “I’ve thought about it and still feel it is better for you and the future unity of the party that I go now.”
