Bakery and takeaway approved for West Pitkerro industrial estate

Planning permission has been granted for a bakery and hot food takeaway on the West Pitkerro industrial estate.
Applicant J A Wingham & Co had asked to take over a unit earmarked for industrial use, although a neighbouring business raised concerns about litter, lack of car parking and late hours opening adversely affecting security.
A council planning officer said such a use would not normally be allowed but there was an exception in the rules if it was felt a primarily industrial area would benefit from other services.
“Providing catering services for employees in this extended commercial and industrial area, it is considered the proposals will meet this criteria,” the officer said.
The objections were rejected, with the officer noting the takeaway would have to provide litter bins.
“At present, there appears to be no pressure on the car parking in this part of the industrial estate and customers in vehicles are likely to be parking for short periods of time.
“This is a modern estate which is open and well-lit and activity associated with such a use may deter anti-social activities.”
The owner intends to open the premises from 6am to 11pm daily.
