City of Culture bid: Community theatre event planned
ByThe Courier Reporter
A massive community theatre event, the biggest held in Dundee for almost 30 years, is expected to form the centrepiece of a successful bid for the culture crown.
However, it is understood this will not be a revival of the popular Witches’ Blood plays held in Dundee in the late 1980s but a brand new production.
Dundee’s bid team are staying tight-lipped about specific details of the showcase events lined up if the city wins.
However, Dundee’s City of Culture year would be centred on four week-long seasonal festivals, celebrating what people thought were the city’s greatest cultural assets.
Although they are not specifically allocated to the winning city, possible events could include the Brit Awards, the Turner Prize and the Man Booker Prize.
Derry/Londonderry, the UK City of Culture, has hosted the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend.
