Emergency services to hold training exercise at Nynas oil refinery
ByNews reporter
Around 50 police, fire and ambulance service personnel will carry out an emergency exercise at the Nynas oil refinery in Dundee on Friday.
The drill will replicate the scenario of battling a small fire and oil spill at the refinery on East Camperdown Street.
Although such exercises are commonly carried out in conjunction with refinery staff and the fire service, Friday’s marks the first time all emergency services will take part.
The drill will take place from 9-11am.
In June five fire units were called to tackle a blaze at the refinery when a boiler house roof caught fire.
An investigation into the incident, the third at the refinery in a year, discovered the probable cause of the fire was due to a failure of a protective seal allowing hundreds of litres of hot oil to escape.
