Fifers get a chance to ‘get on top of the world’

People in the KY and EH postcode areas will get the opportunity to buy tower-top tickets for £50.

Fifers and their neighbours south of the Forth are being offered the chance to get “on top of the world”.

Residents of Fife and Edinburgh are being given a very special chance to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Forth Road Bridge by applying for discounted tickets to scale the heights of one of its towers next summer.

As part of the celebrations, which are a key event in the Homecoming Scotland 2014 calendar, 2,014 tower-top trip tickets are being released to allow members of the public to take advantage of this opportunity.

While the bulk of the tickets will go on public sale in coming weeks, the Forth Bridges Festival organisers have announced an exclusive advance offer for people living in the KY and EH postcode areas.

Through a time-limited public ballot, 500 tickets will be made available at a cost of £50 each, less than half of the face value of £120.

The random ballot will open at 10am today and close at 5pm on October 21.Tickets are limited to two per application, and the offer is only open to people with KY and EH postcodes. Trips will take place every weekend from July 19 to August 23.

Forth Estuary Transport Authority convenor Lesley Hinds said next year was a special not just for the Forth Road bridge, but for the whole country, as Scotland welcomes the world as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014.

“Opportunities for the public to gain access to the spectacular views from the top of the suspension bridge are very rare indeed, and the 2,014 ticket release is a highlight of the Forth Bridges Festival programme.

“The bridge plays a big part in the lives of people living either side of the Forth estuary, so we felt it was only appropriate to give those people something extra special through this ballot.”
