Dundee a pale shadow of side that showed so much opening-day promise

The contrast could not have been starker between the two games so far this season involving Dundee and Kilmarnock.

The first in Ayrshire on the opening day at the start of August had pundits and fans alike raving over the Dark Blues’ attacking flair.

Killie simply had no answer to the pace and movement of the Dundee front three of Rory Loy, Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart who ran riot with the final 4-0 scoreline flattering the home side.

Dundee boss Paul Hartley obviously decided to go for the jugular again on Saturday, adding yet another forward in Rhys Healey to the three who had caused havoc at Rugby Park.

However, it was a move that failed to pay-off with Dundee struggling to get out of first gear at Dens against a Killie side with all the motivation in the world as they attempted to gain revenge for that humiliating earlier thrashing.

Credit must go to their manager Gary Locke who has changed things around and brought in new faces since that opening-day disaster.

He also has the bonus of an in-form front man in the shape of Josh Magennis who was a handful throughout and Killie now sit just one point behind Dundee who have dropped out of the top six after Saturday’s defeat.

Hartley’s side now have a tricky game at the weekend up in Inverness it would certainly be a surprise if the manager decided to repeat his all-out attacking selection in the Highlands.
