VIDEO: Police question motorists in Leuchars after attempted abduction

Police have stepped up their investigation into the attempted abduction of a schoolgirl in Leuchars a week on from the incident.

Officers stopped and questioned motorists in the Pitlethie Road area where the teenager was approached on September 24.

The Madras College pupil was encouraged to get into a grey Land Rover type vehicle by the driver after she stepped off a bus in the village.

No force was used and the girl was unharmed and made her way straight home.

The man is described as mid/late 30’s with light brown hair and a tanned complexion.

Door-to-door enquiries also took place in the area and officers have been examining CCTV images.

Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale said: “The activity this afternoon provides the opportunity to identify witnesses who may, as yet, have gone untraced. People have habits and routines, and it is important to be in a position to identify potential witnesses who may not have come forward so far.

“This is an isolated, unusual and rare incident and the team are dedicated to progressing the investigation and are focussed only on this incident. I am aware that there are a lot of rumours in the community and on social media regarding other incidents having occurred, however the majority are found to be red herrings and are not linked to the Leuchars enquiry, which as I have said, is fortunately an isolated incident.”

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
