Policewoman denies Arbroath red light crash charge

A Tayside policewoman has denied a dangerous driving charge of jumping a red light and smashing her police car into another vehicle at speed, injuring its female passenger and herself.

Jennifer Jones will return to Forfar Sheriff Court next month after appearing before Sheriff Pino Di Emidio on Tuesday in connection with the alleged crash in Arbroath in November 2014.

Jones, 28, c/o Police Service of Scotland, Arbroath, is facing a summary complaint under Section 2 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act.

It alleges that on November 24 2014 on the A92 Burnside Drive, Arbroath, at its junction with Brothock Bridge, while on duty as a police officer she drove a marked police car dangerously and at excessive speed and failed to comply with a signal to stop lawfully provided by a red traffic light, entered the junction at speed and caused her car to collide with another being driven by a woman, whereby both vehicles were damaged and herself and a passenger in the other vehicle were injured.

Local solicitor Brian Bell, representing Jones on behalf of her Glasgow-based solicitors Levy & McRae, requested a two-week continuation in the case for the investigation of certain matters.

The case was continued until February 2, with Jones excused attendance at the next calling.

It is unclear whether she remains on frontline policing duties.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland Tayside Division said: “It would be inappropriate to disclose details regarding an individual’s employment.”
