Dundee Rep Theatre has launched a bid for £60,000 to help its transformation of the Bonar Hall.
The theatre took over the lease of the hall, part of Dundee University’s campus since 1977, last year and is using it for rehearsals and some performances.
The Rep has already held some shows in the Bonar Hall including Kora and A Play, A Peh and A Pint.
The Rep plans to refurbish the hall and has now launched a month-long bid on Kickstarter, the arts website where people can make pledges to help various projects become reality.
The theatre now hopes to raise the £60,000 by July 17.
General manager Ian Alexander said: “Dundee Rep’s vision for Bonar Hall is to build and establish a Creative Campus specialising in performing arts and the Kickstarter pledge will enable us to go forward.”
The Rep was awarded £36,000 by Creative Scotland, the national arts and creative industries body, back in September and more money has been promised by the arts body.
However, Mr Alexander said the theatre will still need to match that and asked the public for their support.
“We are embarking on a substantial capital project and we can only continue with our plans if we receive outside support,” he said.
“Creative Scotland has generously earmarked £466,000, which means we still need to find another £466,000.
“There are many ways you can support the Creative Campus. This could be through legacy giving, donations, sponsorship, advertising or in-kind support (donations of equipment etc).
“All support will be credited in the foyer of the new building.”
The Rep’s bid on the Kickstarter website states: “Our lease of Bonar Hall from Dundee University represents much more than just a second space to us its development will be a tipping point of our organisation.”
