Dundee is set for a showdown against ten competitors in the race to become the UK City of Culture in 2017.
The final list of bidders has revealed the city will face nine places in England, one in Wales and north-east rivals Aberdeen.
The full list is Aberdeen, Chester, Hull, Leicester, Plymouth, Southend on Sea, Hastings, Bexhill on Sea and a joint bid by Portsmouth and Southampton.
Regions East Kent, covering Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Thanet, and Swansea Bay, covering Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath, and Port Talbot, are also in the running to host the event.
Stewart Murdoch, managing director of Dundee Leisure and Culture, said: “I know that there will be a huge amount of energy put in by those cities to the bidding process.
“We are confident that Dundee can put forward an extremely competitive bid against these other cities that shows Dundee in a great light and plays on our strengths in the city.”
All 12 places have until April 30 to submit their initial bids and these will be considered by an independent panel. A shortlist will then be announced in June.
