Family and friends of tragic Perth woman Yvonne Rennie will gather this week to remember the 48-year-old at her funeral.
Mrs Rennie (pictured) died along with 18 other people in a horrific balloon crash while on holiday with her husband Michael (48) in Luxor, Egypt, on February 26.
The balloon plunged several hundred feet but Mr Rennie managed to escape by leaping from it before it exploded into flames on the ground. It is believed to be one of the worst hot air balloon crashes in history.
The couple had moved from Dundee to Perth around 10 years ago and were described by neighbour Linda Kettles as “very nice people” who “kept themselves to themselves”.
She had said: “They were really looking forward to getting away. I’m totally devastated by the news and I really feel for their families.”
Mrs Rennie joined the radiology department at Perth Royal Infirmary as an appointments officer in June 2006, having previously worked at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Latterly she worked as a senior administrative officer.
Following her death, PRI’s radiology manager Douglas Mitchell said: “We are in shock at the sudden and tragic loss of Yvonne.
“She was a much-loved colleague who enjoyed her job, and her tragic passing has had a huge impact on all of us who knew and worked with her. She will be sadly missed.”
Mr Rennie, a package manager with construction services firm Carillion, was treated in hospitals in Luxor and Cairo for minor injuries before returning to Scotland last week. He was quoted as describing his late wife as “my rock, my friend, my shoulder to cry on”.
Mrs Rennie’s funeral will take place on Thursday at Perth Crematorium.
