The man at the centre of a two-day emergency services search in the Arbroath area celebrated his first wedding anniversary last month and is an expectant father.
As The Courier reported yesterday, a night-time clifftop search struggled in absolute darkness to find Royal Marine Ralph Hebden.
He was last seen at the Arbroath home of 45 Commando and was going for a run at 8am on Monday.
It has emerged Mr Hebden celebrated his anniversary with wife Sarah in February, and the couple are expecting a child.
Police have been reviewing CCTV footage in their efforts to find him and they are also speaking to bus companies and taxi firms.
It is understood the Hebdens live in married quarters on the base, although official sources would only confirm Mr Hebden as living in the Arbroath area.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said no further details had been released of Mr Hebden’s disappearance, and that it is now a police matter.
A Coastguard spokesman said they would assist in any further police search but that had not been instigated as of 3pm.
Inspector Adrian Robertson at Arbroath police station said: “We are treating this as a high risk missing person. It is the priority inquiry in Angus at the moment and the resources that would be commensurate with that have been dedicated to it.
“There have been no other confirmed sightings of Ralph and we are using every option available to us to find him including CCTV and door to door inquiries.
“We are keeping the family updated and we are extremely concerned for Ralph’s safety as are his family and friends.
“Any information, no matter how small it may seem, may fill in the puzzle to find him safe and well.
“We have uniformed CID officers and specialist search officers involved in this and they will continue to be so.
“Any one with any information, please call 101, Crimestoppers, or speak to any officer or pop into your local police station if you have information.”
Mr Hebden is 6ft 4in and of muscular build, with short, cropped fair hair.
He was last seen wearing black trainers, dark blue or black jogging bottoms and a blue fleece, and had a blue rain jacket with him.
