Dundee Railway Station plans approved but opposition remains

Plans for the new £14 million railway station concourse were approved by councillors last night.

The six-storey building will have an imposing entrance hall, along with a ticket office, shop and hotel.

Councillor Brian Gordon asked why no architectural competition had been held, but city development director Mike Galloway said one had not been necessary for a high-quality building.

He added the concourse would be fit for purpose to deal with travellers and would offer a “dramatic arrival space” for the city that would complement other nearby developments.

An objection by West End Community Council was ruled out of time by officers and not heard.

Instead, West End councillor Fraser Macpherson highlighted their concerns about taxi arrangements at the station, including the route drivers will have to take to reach the taxi rank after dropping passengers off.

Mr Galloway said it was a “perfectly acceptable manoeuvre”.

Community council chairman Andrew McBride said: “I shall be complaining to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t think they have acted within the spirit of the law.”
