An investigation into the tragic death of a Mearns woman has been completed by Grampian Police.

Charlotte Tennant (20) was found dead at the side of the A90 on October 20 last year, around a mile south of Fordoun.

The popular care home worker and former Mearns Academy pupil had been walking home from a friend’s house when it is understood she was struck by a vehicle between 4am and 5am.

In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, Charlotte’s devastated parents made a plea for anyone who may have been travelling on the route to speak to police, and a team of officers from the Grampian force have been carrying out extensive inquiries since the incident.

Police have confirmed that a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal and the investigation is closed.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Dowall said: “As is the case with all fatal road traffic collisions, a report on the circumstances has now been submitted to the fiscal and we are no longer seeking anyone in connection with the incident.

“This was an extensive investigation and we are grateful to members of the public who came forward with information.

“The family have been kept fully up to date with developments and I hope that this can at least offer them some form of closure.”

Charlotte’s family did not want to speak yesterday but a spokesperson on their behalf said: “This was a tragic set of circumstances and we would like to thank all those friends, work colleagues and members of the community who have been in contact with us over the last few months to offer their support.

“Charlotte was a big part of our lives and will always remain in our hearts and thoughts.”
