The organisers of a new cycling event which took to the roads around Kinross-shire, Fife and Perthshire are already planning next year’s Sportive Kinross.
Nearly 600 cyclists took part in the event, organised by Kinross Cycling Club, and the hope is that it will become a major event for road cyclists from across Scotland and beyond.
Starting at the Kinross Community Campus on Saturday, riders embarked on runs of varying lengths.
Though not a charity ride, Sportive Kinross linked up with the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland and is on track to raise £7000.
Sportive Kinross was designed for developing and experienced cyclists, especially those seeking an early-season challenge.
Director Paul Zarb said, “The weather was slightly unkind it was not bad first thing then the rain appeared, but we got sunshine back towards the end of the day.
“We are already planning next year’s event, though we haven’t got a date sorted, but in all probability it will be the same weekend. The feedback from the riders has been very positive.
“We are very grateful to the police. They did an absolutely fantastic job and many of the riders commented how good they were.”
Participant Seonaid Hudson said, “The Sportive 2011 was my first venture into riding in public as opposed to hiding on back lanes by myself.
“I entered the blue route because I lacked experience but wish I’d done a longer ride. It was a simply wonderful experience.”
