Dundee Rotary Club made one of its largest donations, when a 12-seater minibus was handed over to Alzheimer Scotland.

The charity has been spending around £1500 a month on taxis to transport people between their homes and day care.

The donation took place in the Invercarse Hotel, where the club was having a lunch to celebrate its 90th birthday.

President Robert Burns said, “Given the increasing age of the community and prevalence of Alzheimer’s this was considered a very worthy cause, but one which seemed well beyond our reach.

“However we are delighted that with the generous help of others we have been able to donate this much-needed minibus to Alzheimer Scotland to help them with their transport problems.”

The club set aside £10,000 for the minibus and the sum was matched by an anonymous benefactor, which was still short of the normal £28,000 cost of the minibus.

Tax was wiped off the total due to the charity’s VAT exempt status and the vehicle supplier also gave a discount.

The savings on taxi fares are expected to cover all the running costs.
