Dundee boss Jim McIntyre has revealed that further discussions are going to be held over the immediate future of Glen Kamara.
The midfielder signed a pre-contract with Rangers at the weekend and as things stand, he will move to Ibrox in the summer to begin his four-year deal with the Glasgow giants.
The 23-year-old is currently in Qatar with the Finland national side for a winter training camp but will be back in Scotland in time for Dundee’s next game against Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup.
However, the Dens boss acknowledged that having already agreed a move to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, it can be a potentially-awkward situation for everyone concerned.
McIntyre said: “Glen has signed a pre-contract with Rangers and that’s where it lies at the moment – he will go there in the summer.
“But when pre-contracts are signed you never know where it might lead to.
“It is early in the window and he has got the move to Rangers agreed for the summer but that might change, we just don’t know.”
When asked if he was happy for the player to stay at Dundee until the summer, McIntyre said: “Ideally you would like to agree something because I think when a player decides to move – again it depends on what sort of mentality they have got – are they strong enough to stay and play?
“I don’t want to say it would be best for all parties (if he moved now) because Glen is a Dundee player until something else is agreed so we will have more discussions and that’s all I can say on that.”
While Kamara is set to leave Dens, McIntyre has been busy behind the scenes trying to bolster his squad as they look to dig themselves out of the Premiership relegation mire.
He has been linked with a whole host of players including a centre-half he knows well from his time at Ross County, Andrew Davies.
The 34-year-old left English outfit Hartlepool United earlier this week after his contract was terminated by mutual consent and McIntyre admitted he would like to take a look at the defender.
He said: “Yes, Dav is a player I know really well.
“He has the right mentality and character. He has obviously left Hartlepool and he is somebody that we are interested in but I would like to take a look at his fitness.”
One player who has definitely joined Dundee is Craig Curran.
The striker left Dundee United on Saturday to sign for the Dark Blues and McIntyre is delighted to have the 29-year-old on board.
McIntyre said: “Craig is a player I know really well having signed him for Ross County.
“He did a brilliant job for me and he is an infectious player to have about the dressing-room.
“He plays the centre-forward position really well so he ticks a lot of boxes for me in terms of what I am looking for.
“He has a very strong mentality which is what we are going to need going into the second half of the season.”
Considering Curran played the full 90 minutes for United at Alloa two weeks ago and was on the bench on Saturday for their game with Partick, McIntyre was asked if he was surprised the Tangerines agreed to let him go.
He added: “It was a different manager that signed him so things can change.
“I am just glad that we were able to get him.
“Different managers have different ideas but I know Robbie (United boss Neilson) liked him as a boy having him about the place.
“So we are just delighted that we were able to get things wrapped up pretty quickly before there was other interest in him.”
Meanwhile, McIntyre added that he has so far only received one enquiry regarding any of the players such as Sofien Moussa and Elton Ngwatala who have been told they are free to leave Dundee.
