Two men held by police after stand-off and stabbing in Perth

Two men have been arrested following a dramatic stand-off with police in Perth.

Trained negotiators, officers in riot gear and dog teams were scrambled to the city’s Grampian Court in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a man barricaded himself inside a top floor flat.

The siege, which lasted for several hours, is believed to be linked to a knife attack at nearby Angus Court.

A man named locally as David Goldie, 37, is understood to have been slashed several times at a property there at around 1.30am.

He was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Mr Goldie is believed to stay in a ground floor flat at Grampian Court. A resident said the communal hallway was “covered with blood.”

Police locked down streets around the block of flats for most of the morning, causing major congestion and tailbacks on busy Crieff Road.

A man was seen at a top floor window shouting, swearing and gesturing to police officers below. It is understood there was another man in the flat during the stand-off.

Police officers were also stationed around Angus Court. An area, stretching from a narrow alleyway to the Fairfield Neighbourhood Centre, was taped off.

By 11am, negotiators were stood down and a man was seen being led into a police van by officers wearing protective, riot gear.

One resident said: “I’ve never seen so many police in one place. We had to get an escort in and out of the building.

“The hallway was covered in blood. It looked really serious.

“I don’t know David, but his name is on one of the ground floor flats.”

A force spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that following an incident in Grampian Court, two men aged 28 and 38 have been arrested.

“A 36-year-old woman who was also within the property is assisting officers with enquiries.”

He added: “A 37-year-old man had earlier been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following an alleged assault.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing and there may be a police presence in the area for some time to allow them to be completed.

“We would like to thank the local residents along with those affected by the closure of Crieff Road for their patience and co-operation while the incident was safely resolved.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and transported one male patient to hospital.”
