Dundee named as one of 10 best places for a city break in the UK

Dundee has scooped another accolade after being named one of the top 10 city break destinations in the UK by an influential travel magazine.

Conde Nast Traveller described Dundee as “Scotland’s renaissance city” in the article.

Dundee is the only Scottish city on the list, which is topped by Bristol, Cambridge and Manchester.

The recognition by the luxury travel magazine comes just days after Dundee was named the best place to live in Scotland by The Sunday Times.

In Conde Nast Traveller, writer Giovanni Dunmall states: “Dundee’s ascendance as one of the UK’s must-visit cultural destinations continues unabated after the opening of the dramatic waterside V&A last autumn, Scotland’s first design museum.

The article also praised the “exciting Scottish cuisine” by Masterchef: The Professionals winner at The Newport and the “cleverly-converted” Staybridge Suites.

The magazine had previously named Dundee as one of the 10 places to watch in 2018.

Dundee City Council leader John Alexander, spokesman for the One City, Many Discoveries campaign set up to promote Dundee said he was “delighted” at the recognition.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see another influential travel title recommend Dundee as one of the top 10 places in the UK for a city break.

“Dundee has award-winning visitor attractions, an expanding choice of accommodation, independent cafe’s, restaurants and entertainment to suit all budgets and a fantastic programme of events and entertainment on offer throughout the year.

“We’re delighted that Conde Nast Traveller, read by curious travellers across the globe has tapped our city as the place to be this summer.”
