Buses to Edinburgh cancelled as sun-seekers bring ‘traffic mayhem’ to Fife

Traffic “mayhem” hit the roads around some of Fife’s most popular beaches on Monday as locals flocked to make the most of the hot weather.

Police in the Kingdom told motorists to “avoid” routes around Aberdour due to the number of sun-seekers heading to the area on Easter Monday afternoon, with some evening bus services cancelled due to the “severe congestion”.

In a warning posted to the South West Fife Police Twitter account, the force said drivers could face “a very long delay” if passing through the area.

The tweet reads: “[The sun] has caused the majority of Fife to travel to Aberdour beach area which has now caused traffic mayhem.

“Avoid routes in that area if possible or you could face a very long delay to your journey.”

And Stagecoach evening services between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay were affected as the traffic issues continued until late in the day.

Stagecoach East Scotland posted: “Due to severe congestion in and around the Aberdour and Dalgety Bay area our services are incurring delays to services mainly service 7, X58 & X60.”

Journeys between Edinburgh and Ferrytoll were cancelled as a result of the traffic issues along the coast.

Fife Jammers said the road from Dalgety Bay to Aberdour was “grid-locked” with people heading to Silver Sands Beach earlier in the day.
