Major UK dairy industry event the Borderway UK Dairy Expo will return to Carlisle next year, it has been announced.
Revealing details of the showcase, auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington said the event will take place at their Rosehill mart, sited in close proximity to the M6, on Saturday, March 8.
Attracting thousands of visitors from across the globe, the 2014 event will be the third UK Dairy Expo a one-day business event, which plays host to some of the finest dairy genetics in the UK and the latest in dairy technology and innovation.
This year’s Dairy Expo attracted more than 300 livestock entries, with Holstein cow Lavenham Adeen crowned grand champion of champions.
The outstanding cow, applauded by Canadian judge Barclay Phoenix as “one of the best cows” he had ever seen, is owned in partnership by Mark Nutsford, Anthony Grimshaw and Stephen Bell.
Mark, who plans to enter more livestock in the show next year, said although showing dairy cattle is a major investment, it is “certainly worthwhile” at the UK Dairy Expo.
He said hosts H&H, “go out of their way to encourage family participation”.
H&H said the show provides a key opportunity for breeders and farmers from across the UK to come together to compete with their animals and discuss the future of the dairy industry as a whole.
Operations director and event organiser for the firm, David Pritchard, said: “Dairy farming plays such a huge role in the rural economy, and in arranging Dairy Expo our aim is to provide both a business event and showcase for livestock and trade exhibitors and the industry as a whole.”
