Redcastle Mhorita Millie stands supreme at Lothian and Borders Foal Show

Lothian and Borders foal show attracted the largest turnout of Clydesdale horses for the last decade.

Judge John Dunbar, Stepends, Airdrie, made senior filly foal Redcastle Mhorita Millie show supreme.

Owned and home-bred in Arbroath by property developer and Clydesdale breeder John Anderson, of Drummygar Mains, Carmyllie, this was Millie’s second supreme plaudit of the foal show season.

The April-born filly, sired by John’s Cawdor Cup winning stallion Redcastle Brelee Majestic, is the first foal he has got on the ground from Stonecroft Mhorita Jewel.

Bred by Maureen and Warren Kells, the mare first caught John’s attention during a visit to Canada when she was just a foal.

After buying the now five-year-old daughter of Westgate Ringleader as an unshown yearling and importing her to Scotland, John briefly showed her to stand senior champion at Forfar Foal Show.

Only lightly shown since as a two-year-old, she took the tricolour rosette at Fife.

Following in her mother’s successful footsteps, Redcastle Mhorita Millie this year made her show debut with a reserve female and reserve supreme at Aberdeen Clydesdale Show, and was foal champion and overall winner of the Lanark Foal Show.

The Douglas brothers of Barlauchlan were given the nod for reserve supreme with their filly foal Barlauchlan Highland Queen. She had led the junior filly class, before progressing to stand filly foal reserve.

This filly was bred out of Barlauchlan Lucky Charm and sired by the Cawdor Cup-winning stallion Arradoul Balvenie. She had ealier this year won the reserve female and reserve supreme championships at Wigtown Show.

In the colt foal ring, the championship was won by Ronnie Black, of Newton of Collessie, Ladybank, with his as yet un-named junior colt foal.

Home-bred out of Collessie Julia and sired by Collessie Stepping Stone, he was reserve colt foal at Kilmarnock, won his class at Cupar Foal Show and was champion colt foal, reserve foal and reserve overall at Lanark Foals.

Blackford-based Kevin Wilson secured the reserve colt rosette with his second-prized junior colt Blueton Braveheart. This May-born colt was sired by Doura Jackpot and bred by Kevin out of his show mare Westbank Ruby Tuesday.

Kevin won the reserve championship with Braveheart at Aberfeldy Show during the summer.

He has just the two Clydesdale horses at the moment, although he is expecting another foal from Ruby next year.

In the senior horse championship Charlotte Young’s yearling filly Doura Rihanna continued her winning ways with another championship.

This daughter of Doura Jackpot has taken the reserve senior title at Cupar and was senior champion at Kilmarnock.

Jacqueline Pettigrew and Matt Burk’s yearling filly Glebeview Emma took senior reserve.

Bred by Victor Scott in Northern Ireland by Glebeview Sir Charles, out of Redhill Rebecca, she was on her first outing of the winter season having been champion during the summer at Houston, Dalry and Northumberland, and reserve at Neilston and Stewarton.
