Dundee company Safedem has built up such a strong international reputation for knocking down buildings that it has become World Demolition Contractors of the Year.
The company, which employs around 60 people at its headquarters on Kingsway West, has knocked down most of Dundee’s high-rise flats but its demolition engineers have become so prized that the company has expanded its operations into England, Europe and the USA.
Last weekend Safedem completed the controlled demolition of Glasgow’s towering Norfolk Court multi in Laurieston.
The 37-year-old, 23-storey block, once home to 276 families, was reduced to rubble in just 10 seconds.
Safedem is the only UK company to have been voted World Demolition Contractors of the Year and also holds the International Explosives Demolition Award.
In recent years it has knocked down 26 multi-storey blocks in Dundee and 15 in Glasgow.
