Dundee’s bid to become a hub for the renewables energy industry received a major boost today when the city’s port was named as one of Scotland’s new enterprise areas.
The city council and its partners made a bid for the city to be included in the programme after the Scottish Government announced its intention to introduce them last year.
The new zones will offer incentives such as tax reliefs to firms locating in certain areas of Scotland and creating new jobs.
The thrust of Dundee’s bid was focused on the opportunities within the green energy sector and its associated supply chain.
City council administration leader Ken Guild said the authority and its partners lobbied hard for Dundee to be included in the enterprise area programme.
Scotland’s four new enterprise areas were confirmed on Tuesday by Finance Secretary John Swinney.
The city’s aspirations were boosted last month when SSE signed a memorandum of understanding with the local authority, Forth Ports and Scottish Enterprise.
