A major UK crane firm has opened a new depot in Dundee and revealed plans to expand its services in Scotland.

Ainscough Crane Hire said its new premises at Glamis Road will allow the firm to base vehicles from its heavy cranes and transport fleet in the city.

Ainscough, which employs nine staff in Dundee, formerly operated from a site at the Port of Dundee.

Gavin Egdell, Ainscough Crane Hire’s regional operations manager – Scotland, said: “Our improved presence in Dundee will allow a greater variety of clients across Scotland to utilise more of our extensive fleet, allowing our team to play a key part in many of the construction and infrastructure projects taking place throughout the country.

“This is our second new and improved depot in Scotland to open this year.

“With more to follow in 2020 we are truly a company going from strength to strength across the country.

Ainscough operates from 30 sites in the UK, including five in Scotland, with a workforce of more than 900 and a fleet of over 400 cranes.

The Dundee depot incorporates offices, meeting rooms, workshops, showers, welfare and overnight amenities.

The improved facilities and coverage will allow Ainscough to improve the service it offers clients across multiple sectors, including construction, infrastructure throughout Scotland and local housebuilding within Dundee.

The firm has recently been employed by Taylor Wimpey for its Victoria Grange development in Monifieth.

“The new depot will also allow us to create training and employment opportunities for local people, and provide support to the local economy though our work with local businesses,” Mr Egdell added.

“I look forward to working with current and new clients on many exciting projects throughout the year.”

The opening of new depot was marked by an official event attended by representatives of several Ainscough clients in the area.
